So I want to start by saying i thoroughly enjoyed my lunch experience today. I wanted to give this rating a five-star but after reading the other reviews, I do have to agree, their service leaves something to be desired. It seems they are focused on the establishment and the food, and it stops there. I wanted to order three tacos and they said they don't do a la carte...? Why? Its not like its not possible? I guess they don't want to make more money... But the food tho..... I've been wanting a good fish taco for a while and a coworker of mine kept harping a bout this place that is 30 minutes away (who wants to drive 30 minutes for lunch!?) But after a few months we decided to heed his advice and go. It was so worth it! I ordered the corn/cream corn on the cob concoction for an appetizer and the signature tacos with a salad for lunch. They were one of the best fish tacos i've ever had! They fish was generously sized, although the tacos themselves are not the biggest, they make up for that in taste. The corn on the cob appetizer was AMAZING!!! I seriously was going to order my entire lunch over again, so I could eat it tonight for dinner . I loved it that much. And one of my corworkers DID Actually do that :) Definitely will be back, but before then, please up the customer service, FTT!

Food is alright, if you like overpriced fish tacos.... Other than mediocre food, the service is pretty rough. Manager is not the nicest guy. He is more interested in pushing the quantity of food than delivering a decent experience. Hopefully this will prove to be a onetime experience. However, if the stress of a Wednesday night exposed the rough edges, I can't imagine what a nice Saturday night will reveal.

Went tonight for a quick bite. Hubby was hungry, so I joined him, though didn't order anything. We live close by, & have wanted to try for awhile. The Latino hip hop music was great, but way too loud () for we baby boomers, even waiting outside for husband's food. When his order came, he asked if the music could be turned down a bit, & we were surprised & pleased that they turned it down--a lot--quickly. And think it was the mgr. who came out to ensure it was OK w/us. Even though I didn't have dinner, that kind of customer service ensures we'll return, & btw--hubby's blackened fish tacos & salad were great!

This place definitely hits the spot after a morning of hiking! It's nestled in a strip mall, and parking seemed like it could get a bit hectic. When we arrived, it was on the busier side, as there was a line to order, but I guess people were also leaving at that time, so we were able to snag a table outside. You order at the counter, and they bring the food out to you. I think that they will seat you if you sit inside, but outside is first-come, first-serve seating. I ordered the blackened fish tacos, side of guac for the table to share, and a frozen margarita. The frozen marg was a bit on the bland side, but it was refreshing just to have something cold after being out in the sun all morning. The fish tacos were good. Great? Not quite, but solid. I thought they could have upped the seasoning (or spice level?) a bit in the sauce or the seasoning on the fish, but they also had bottle of hot sauce on the table, so I also could have added some of that to add additional umph. Next time, I'd like to try their signature crispy fish tacos.

Sacrifice the juice of several limes and add some cilantro to this ish and it would have been a fantastic meal. Because I'm super Asian, I went for the classic fish rice bowl. The fish sticks were fantastic -- perfectly fried with a soft, flaky interior. Along with this is a smattering of black beans, sliced bell peppers, corn, and their "special sauce" which I opted out of because like Lia, I'm mayo adverse. The bowl as a whole was pretty bland as a whole but I was able to squeeze a few limes on top and it was almost perfect. I'd like to have also seen some more pico de gallo on top to make all of the flavors really shine. That being said all of the ingredients were perky fresh. Their chips come out hot which was appreciated but their guacamole could have also benefitted from additional lime and onion. It was also a bit too smooth for my taste. Definitely a cute quick spot to grab lunch in Cabin John!

I try very hard not to give out 5-star reviews, but oh my Fish Taco was heavenly! I grew up in San Diego, so I'm always in search of good tacos, and Fish Taco knocked it out of the park. Delicious food. Enthusiastic and attentive service, eager to please. Very clean. Good prices. Land Shark on tap! LOVED our lunch here after a great bike ride on the C&O Canal. Excellent guacamole, and I actually felt like I got my money's worth (volume to cost ratio at most other places leaves me feeling ripped off). I guarantee I'll be going back to Fish Taco.

Register person was not friendly and when I tried to add grilled fish in lieu of fried Tilapia, yeah wanted to charge me five dollars extra. The fried flounder was overly battered and very little fish. The chips and salsa were great. The house salad was great. I think the type of food it's very pricey and very little substance with regard to the steak chicken or fish that is being served. Small portions. I've gone several times and still wonder why it's so popular after their portions are so small? Maybe I'm missing something? Good luck everyone

Talk about a tony town. The unincorporated, census-designated place (whatever the f that means) of wealthy Cabin John has the second-nicest strip mall I've ever seen in my life (Wildwood Shopping Center being the first). Located in said complex is the succinctly, yet aptly, named Fish Taco. I really wasn't prepared--I thought Cabin John was a rural area with not many people and that Fish Taco would be a tiny taqueria--maybe take-out only. However, I was wrong. The restaurant is very pretty, with beautiful lighting, an open space, and a patio. The menu reminds me of a higher-end Chipotle. You order at the counter and your items are brought to your table. I ordered the fish tacos (no sauce) and shared the guacamole with Sahar. We also each got a margarita. Thinner tortilla chips are used here. The guacamole was the creamiest, least onion-est version I've ever had. It was so good. But those fish tacos--wow. Definitely the best version I've had. The well-sized pieces of fish are fried to a crunchy perfection. I thought they might be bland with just the fish and slaw, but they were not. Rice and beans come as a side and those were tasty. The frozen margaritas are tangy and not too sweet, but there's also no alcohol in them, so I wouldn't waste my calories again. Which is too bad, because they were delicious. Staff was friendly, though my cashier didn't know if there was mayo in the sauce (there is) and didn't ask me if I wanted a different sauce. Luckily, staff interaction is minimal. I'd happily make my way out here again for those tacos.

Came to this hidden taco spot with my mom for a late lunch. They have a bunch of taco options - including a few seafood ones and one veggie. We got the blackened fish tacos and the shrimp tacos. Each order gets two tacos. You can choose to get a salad or rice and beans as a side. We tried them both. Both of the taco types were very fresh and tasty. They weren't spicy at all - which I personally liked, but they were a bit bland for my mom's taste.. As for the sides, the side salad was much better than the average side salad. I would recommend choosing that option. The rice and beans were decent, but nothing to write home about. Service was fast and the people working there were all very friendly. I do plan on returning to this place and I'm excited to try their other fish taco options.

I recently started working in the area and needed affordable good food close by. This place is a pretty good spot for that. I have had the signature fish and shrimp tacos along with their chicken and steak burritos. I definitely think the way to go is their tacos. The burritos are good, filling, and relatively cheaper to the tacos. Being from California I know my tacos! And these are pretty good.

Hubby and I stopped here after billy goat and enjoyed a sunny 'linner' (my version of lunch/dinner). We sipped on frozen margaritas - which were honestly better than i expected, they weren't overly tart, munched on chips and salsa (the salsa was exceptionally good IMO, just a little kick to it) and then feasted upon blackened fish and barbacoa tacos. I'm used to barbacoa being shredded and this was in chunks, but never fear, the flavor was on point and complemented by the pickled jalapeno. Really, really nice flavors. The tacos also come with rice and beans and for just shy of $40 we had a very satisfactory meal.

Came here at 1pm on a Saturday with group of 8 - is fast food so no reservations needed and plenty of seating. Convenient place near the Billy Goat hiking trails (~5min drive away) Ambience/decor: - good amount of natural light in dining area! Some outdoor seating too but not much - Bench-style tables which were kept clean and organized Service: - friendly staff, though stuff is largely do-it-yourself with a station for getting your own water/utensils - no need to clean up tables after though, the staff there do it Food: - Chips/guac: solid chips! Thinner/crispier than Chipotle and less salty which I like. Guac is creamy and fresh but bland (not many onions/seasoning in it) - Steak quesadilla: 4 huge triangles. Could only eat half! Taste was decent but the cheese to meat/veggies ratio was too high for me; was probably 80% cheese! If you like a lot of cheese though this would be good. - Blackened fish and mango salad: delicious! Super fresh ingredients, great sear on the fish and mango was an awesome complement - Fish burrito: friends who ordered it really liked it but I personally thought there was too much rice when I took a bite. - Rice bowls: didn't get to try myself, but general consensus of the table was that the chicken was the best! And that the pork carnitas were way too dry. Overall had decent fresh food but with dishes around $9-10 (pre tax/tip) I'll probably stick to Chipotle. Would come back for that salad though if I'm hiking near the area again!

My friend and I had just finished hiking the Bill Goat trail and we were in need of some tasty and healthy food as a reward for our tough hike. She told me that her parents visited here a lot so I was interested to try out the menu. The parking is free. There are tables outside but you can only sit in front of the restaurant, you can't sit at a table in front of another business. She ordered the avocado taco and the roasted corn. I had a shrimp salad and chicken tortilla soup. As soon as I ordered the shrimp salad, I realized that I wanted the mango and fish salad. It seems pretty normal to me for a change in your order. But as soon as I went back to the register the girl told me that she'd have to go back in the system and cancel the order and charge me for a new one. It would have been awesome if she was a little more friendly and said no problem and took care of the change. But no change was made. The shrimp salad was good. I would not order the chicken tortilla soup again. I asked for a cup and the girl who took my order never said it only comes in a bowl. So, I had my soup in a giant bowl and it comes with dark meat only. I only ended up eating the vegetables as I'm not a huge fan of dark meat. Lessons learned: - Make sure you know what you want because changing an order is impossible - Ask about ingredients, etc. before ordering I would go back for their salads.

While the food is pretty decent, the service is some of the worst I've ever experienced. We waited over and hour for two orders of fish tacos! Completely absurd. This is Mexican food, not a European island restaurant where everyone likes to wait and drink. When we asked our waiter, he simply responded "it come soon". No explanation or apology. There are tons of better Mexican places in DC/Bethesda/Potomac. It's also fairly expensive. Not worth it.

I love the fish tacos at this restaurant. I've had both grilled fish tacos and special (fried) fish tacos. I prefer grilled fish tacos. The ingredient is always fresh. I love eating them with a mug of beer.

If you are around this area, it's a must! Who knew that in the middle of glen echo is where you would find great tacos and burrito rice bowls? The customer service is pretty good as well, everyone is pretty nice and friendly. I work in potomac village and man, are they lacking in the food world over there. This is close enough to stop by and pick up lunch. I have yet to have a bad meal here. I've gotten the steak salad, which was great, the beef brisket barbacoa quesadilla, yum!, the skirt steak rice bowl, delicious! It just gets better and better every time I go. Btw, they guacamole here is on point! along with the house chips and salsa but the guac, it's just fantastic! It's a little pricey but its well worth it. The parking is pretty crappy.

What an awesome "signature" fish taco. This reminded me of Wahoo fish taco in Southern California. I like a fried fish better then grilled for fish tacos. The whole taco tasted great. We tried the rice and beans and salad as sides and would get them again. Can't wait to go back and try their other menu items.

I come form New Mexico and we are very sure of our New Mexican style food. When I saw their here menu I say a chili relleno on the menu. I thought no way this thing would be good, but I was wrong. It was better than I find in my home land burque New Mexico. Two thumbs up burritos rock and the service is great. I'd always come back to this place.

Resolutely bland and un-Mexican in flavor and style. White rice and beans for a side? Heated up tostitos? Portions were small yet expensive, plus you get to sit in a parking lot.

The food here is AMAZING! My girlfriend and I stopped by here the first couple of weeks it opened.. we did not know what to expect, but man were we satisfied (we have been back since several times). We got the chicken burrito and the grilled fish taco, both were amazing. Pro Tip : make sure you ask about the pineapple mango salsa you can add on for a small additional fee it is definitely worth it and makes any dish x10 better The food is not overly greasy or fatty and to me feels lighter then most Mexican restaurants. We walked away feeling satisfied, not stuffed, and definitely happy. Recommended to everyone who wants to enjoy some delicious Mexican food.

I had blackened fish taco and it was burned to the coal looking thing. Not good at all.. Husband had steak taco and we both liked it. Tap beers, margaritas - pretty good. Self service.... Husband asked for a small dish of hot salsa ( habanero) and they came back to charge 0.35 for a tablespoon of it. For 11-12 bucks per taco I thought it was unnecessary, not to mention that chips and salsa are not complimentary... We will not be driving back here - nothing to miss here....

I love this little Cabin John place, which is kind of like a souped-up Chipotle specializing in seafood tacos and quesadillas. Here's why: 1. It's fun to walk or bike there from Glen Echo Park. 2. The homemade guacamole and everything with ancho shrimp in it are air-hump delicious. 3. There are many healthy options, all prepared with actual thought. E.g., the cojita-chicken-kale caesar salad, which is delicious enough to be enjoyable, yet calorically virtuous enough that I feel no remorse pigging out on chips and guac. 4. The patio area is the perfect place to take your young kids out for dinner on a summer night. There are plenty of other families, and babies be screamin'...but they're not annoying anyone else, since everyone's outside the echo chamber of a dining room. 5. Prices are super reasonable, and portions are perfectly sized. So why am I only giving this place 4 stars? 1. No soda fountain 2. No soda fountain 3. No soda fountain. Etc. When we eat Mexican, we want a big, bottomless Diet Coke, or we are not amused. But everything else is almost good enough to make it worth settling for one dismal little can.

Got the grilled fish tacos and immediately became enamored with them--you could taste the char, proving they were fresh off the grill like from a Latin American street cart. And my frozen lemon margarita was surprisingly good for what you normally expect to be overly sweet and from a carton. The décor was cute, the music was nice, and it wasn't crowded or loud. My only slight complaint is the pricing--$6 for a guacamole made from about 1 avocado that you could buy in the store for $1 and which only satiated about 1/3 of our chips. We will definitely come back though, to try more of the tacos and salads!

The sleepy town of Glen Echo/Cabin John is the last place I would expect a fish taco place, especially a half decent one! Fish Taco Taqueria had their soft opening tonight (8/16/13). I just had to try their signature Ensenada Style Fish Taco. The menu describes it as "fried local fish, pickled cabbage, and cilantro cream". I am a little scared by the "local fish" description, being that I just came from a run by the canal nearby where lots of dead fishies were floating. For the sake of my unborn children, please don't let this fish be from the Potomac. Despite the vague fish description, what does this fish taco fanatic think of the fish tacos? Well it's a pretty close approximation of the baja style fish tacos! It needs more lime and cilantro and you're set! I ordered a side of black beans, not exactly flavorful. I think they need something added like bacon, or perhaps maybe even bacon? The menu also offers blackened fish, grilled fish , shrimp, scallop, octopus, brisket and al pastor tacos all around $12-13 for two with a side of mexican rice and beans. The menu also offers burritos, rice bowls and quesadillas. All in all, this might be one of the more legit fish tacos I have had on the East Coast. It's a order at the counter place with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with friendly service, just what the neighborhood needed. They open for lunch service tomorrow and I hope it will be smooth sailing for this place!

Tried this neighborhood gem for a Sunday lunch on a recommendation and it was love at first bite! The signature fried fish taco was the perfect play of flavors and textures, all for a bargain price (note: pork taco was unremarkable by comparison). Add a good selection of beer, great margueritas, delicious guacomole and outside seating and voilà, a 4-star find!

Great spot! Visiting a friend in Bethesda and stopped by for a quick lunch. Having just been in CA for 2 weeks on vacation, I was spoiled with amazing & authentic fish tacos. I wondered if I would be satisfied here. Well, I have to say, I was very pleased! Fresh, delicious & authentic. My only "gripe" was that I requested soft corn tortillas vs. soft flour tortillas, and ended up with flour. Despite my preference for corn, they were still very good. My family ordered quesadillas: cheese, steak and brisket, all loaded with flavorful and fresh cheese and meat. A great find!

Upscale fast casual - the Baja fresh for the Land Rover set, I think it rates 3 $ for price. You do get what you pay for with very fresh and tasty Mexican food. A focused menu means they know what they're doing and do it well. Pacifico on tap and Spanish language music complete the experience!

Local fast casual restaurant, order at the counter, they give you a number and then deliver food to your table. I love the blackened fish tacos, but haven't had anything that wasn't good! Weekends can be crowded at both lunch and dinner, but never too long a wait. Lots of families with kids. Outdoor seating is great. We always stop here for lunch after biking on the towpath, but it's worth a trip even if you aren't nearby. Not cheap but good quality food and consistently great service.

Had the house specialty, fried fish tacos with a side of black beans and rice. Tacos had cabbage, a delicious mayonnaise derivative sauce and of course fries fish. Not the quintessential no cal / so cal soft taco wrap but pretty damn good nonetheless. The fish was deep fried in that British fish and chips style. Super yummy. Service was meh and slow. Great if you're looking for good fish tacos.

I would not know this place exist without living social. Environment: parking is somewhat limited ... If all the single spaces are taken then you have no choice but to park in the tandem spaces. Inside is nice and cozy, very welcoming. Food: I had the blackened tilapia taco and the husband had the brisket quesadilla. The fish itself was bland. I could not tell if the toppings that came with the tacos were salty or the rice and beans. Rice was soggy, if you know what I mean. The brisket was delicious. Overall, I would definitely come back but not order the blackened tilapia taco.

Blackened mahi mahi tacos... The fish was very nicely prepared. Points for that - I was surprised how well this was cooked. The slaw and mayo were also great. Flavor and balance points there. The pineapple relish/salsa was my only problem. I'm being picky here - because the flavor was pretty good - but it was either slightly too sweet for me, or slightly too abundant. Maybe a little of each. Brisket was very nice also - lean, flavorful, not dry, and I appreciated the heat in the sauce. Rice and beans are really the only note of mediocrity here.. A bit salty, a bit standard - not exactly winning any awards. Signature tacos, also good, but I prefer the blackened. Will probably try grilled next.

I mean the food is fine. I've been there so many times I've lost count. But there's this one waitress there who mans the cash register and she looks so unhappy to be there. She has this depressed look about her and I've never seen her smile. She also acts really badly... She sorta huffs and puffs her way through an order. And one time my dad ordered something but wanted to change it pretty much two minutes after he said his original order and she said it was too late because she had already sent the order in...really? Like, just tell the cooks that order number XXYY had X instead of Y. She really should not be manning the cash register, she has a bit of an attitude and isn't helpful at all. The food's good though.

EXCELLENT fish tacos and salad bowls. Sure ... it's pricey ... but good quality fish is pricey ... (ok, portions seem a bit small too) ... but everything was cooked perfectly. The "non fish taco menu" was basically Baja Fresh ... although my daughter loved the chicken quesadilla ... probably because of what appeared to be a ton of butter. Good service. Great food. Will absolutely go back. It was the best fish taco I've ever had (including multiple San Diego joints) but hard to give this place a five for the rest of the menu and the prices.

FOOD: 10 out of 5 stars for corn on the cob!!!!! 4 stars for fish tacos SERVICE: 5 Stars AMBIANCE: 5 Stars OVERALL: 4.5 STARS I LOVE THIS PLACE! I love their corn on the cob and the sauce that comes with it. The corn is perfectly charred and the sauce is to die for! It's too bad that I ate the corn before eating the tacos because the corn on the cob raised my expectation beyond the roof that even though the fish tacos were great, I did not find it to be amazing. However, to be fair, if I had tried the tacos prior to the corn, I am sure I would have given the tacos a five-star rating. The tacos had very fresh ingredients with a yummy sauce. I liked the proportion and the balance between the ingredients and the sauce. This place has a semi- self-service concept so you need to order from the counter, grab your utensils and wait for the employee to bring you the food. The employee/server was extremely helpful and friendly. I liked the ambiance because it was very laid back and had the perfect decor to enhance the feeling of coziness and comfort. Also, they have a limited outdoor sitting, which is a treat on a nice day. This is definitely one of my favorite places.

1.) The food is way over-priced for what you get regarding size, quality and taste. Chipotle is a far better deal; less expensive, humanely raised and processed meats, and natural ingredients. 2.) We order chicken burritos for our children; Four little cubes of chicken in each burrito... 3.) The inside of the fried fish taco was over cooked and dry. 4.) The service was indifferent, at best. Thoroughly disappointed.

I have been coming to Fish Taco a few times a week for the last month and will never return after my experience at lunch today. I ordered the charred corn pico and avocado quesadilla and had to repeat my order 4 times only to be corrected and informed what I'm ordering is actually the "vegetable quesadilla". But that's not what it says on the menu? Anyways, after ordering, my food was delivered to my table promptly. I noticed something that looked like meat in my quesadilla, so I pulled it apart to find chicken. The food runner noticed my confusion and quickly took my plate away, apologized and brought over my veggie quesadilla. Then, the runner he waited two minutes and took the chicken quesadilla to the correct patron! The quesadilla I had been inspecting and picking apart with my UNWASHED TOTAL STRANGER HANDS! I am so bummed this happened. I love the food here and the in-house dining experience is very pleasant, but this kind of blatantly lazy and dangerous service is unacceptable.

Once inside, you'd never know you were in a strip mall. It's such a quaint little place with an interesting seating arrangement, kind of limited but not bad if there are just 2 of you. The guacamole is superb. The beer and margaritas are served in mason jar mugs, which just add to the cuteness. You get a good amount for your money. The chicken quesadilla was delicious and large for a quesadilla. I can't wait to go back and try more from the menu.

For what it is, could have gone five stars. Great food, great price, nice decor, friendly staff, and speedy. What's left to want? Service is similar to Nando's - order at counter, take a flag with a number on it. Food came quickly. Wow - the chicken tortilla soup is outstanding. Had two tacos - a lot of food. The adobo smoked pork was great. The brisket quesadilla was great. The decor is very pleasant. Just the right amount of cramped.

Fishy Taco! All of the following are great; -decor/atmosphere -menu -drinks -staff -ingredient quality EXCEPT for the fish! I've been here several times and I've had the fish tacos probably 4 times. I keep wanting to try the fish tacos thinking it's gotta be good because it's the namesake menu item, but every time the fish does not taste fresh. I like this place, but just stay away from the Fishy Taco!

This was a nice surprise. We went for the fish tacos, but got drawn in by some of the other menu items. We ended up with the beef burrito and the fish rice bowl. The burrito was very flavorful, although I added some extra spice with the hot sauces provided on the tables. The fish rice bowl came with breaded and fried fish and was also good. One of the workers recommended the blackened fish tacos, which looked awesome from what we saw, so we will have to try those next time.

What a charming little find in Cabin John, MD! After a long hike in Great Falls, after you have worked up an appetite, head on over to this little strip mall, where you will find an organic co-op store, several quaint stores and this neighborhood gem! Highly recommend the grilled Mahi Mahi tacos. You will be presented with a ceramic plate of 2 delicious tacos, and a side of rice and beans. A little spiced mayo is drizzled over the tacos, which are fresh, tangy and leave you wanting just one more...! The complimentary chips and salsa are also dangerously addictive:) outside seating in the shade completes this experience!

Fish taco is my favorite restaurant and I go there at least once a week. People complain about it being to spicy but in my opinion if theres one thing they could improve is adding MORE spice! By far the best restaurant in the shopping center. It is the biggest neighborhood hangout for high schoolers and in walking distance from multiple neighborhoods. If you've had a bad experience with their food then you probably didn't order the SIGNATURE TACO, the STEAK QUESADILLA, the CORN ON THE COB, or the SHRIMP SALAD. These are by far the best dishes from my experience and all of my friends and family agree. I always pair my food with some Nantucket nectars lemonade or the classic local Honest tea. Also, if you don't like fish there are a lot of other options to choose from!

I love Fish Taco. My girlfriend lives around the corner and we have been coming here ever since she moved in - multiple times a week. While it is a bit out of the way, the food is consistently delicious every time we visit. We always get the signature fish taco, and rotate between one of the specials or the charred corn and avocado quesadilla. For under $15 a person, it's a very satisfying meal! The service is also consistently excellent.

3.5 Stars I always find it annoying when people write a review when a restaurant has been open a few days and proceed to trash it. Did you expect them to be Michelin Star Ready on day one? Yes you should be ready, but there are always hiccups. That said, the place has been open a few weeks and so I stopped in for a take out lunch. The inside is very nice and sort of reminds me a really nice chipotle, though much much nicer. The food is pretty reasonably priced. Those complaining about 2 tacos for $12...these tacos are far far bigger than your $1.50 taco at a food truck etc. Also, with rice and beans, it's a sizable meal. If that isn't enough food, you are probably eating too much. The rice bowls are huge as well and at $9, the pastor bowl is a bargain and delicious. The guacamole is fresh, but had a not so ripe avocado in ours. Ill pass on that next time. But the chips are quite tasty. Overall, this is a good place to grab some quick mexican. When i'm back in the area, im sure ill stop in again.

On the 2nd visit, we found this as problematic as the first time - just in different ways: The server brought out the first entree. After a few minutes, it was embarrassing just sitting there looking at the dish so one person started eating. After 10 minutes, the server brought out the 2nd entry. The 3rd (and last) entree had yet to arrive and we naturally wondered if it was going to be another long wait for that. But then one of my dinner companions noticed the server had taken away our table number! Delivering entrees so widely space apart is a serious problem but now it seemed like the server was considering our meal delivered with only 2 of 3 entrees. I went to find the manager. The restaurant wasn't busy so he was easy to find and happy to listen. He apologized but had no explanation for what happened. I also asked him about a dish that had been delivered. One of my dinner companions had ordered the brisket taco and it had two chunks entirely of fat rather than brisket. The manager said that sometimes happens. In the opinion of my companion (who knows her brisket), it shouldn't. The brisket should have had any fat that substantial trimmed off before it was cut into the chunks for the taco. And even if the manager stands by his opinion, given that the taco doesn't actually hold many such chunks, it would make sense for the chef to give them a look before serving such a dish just to avoid this problem. Obviously what happened here was that the meat was neither properly trimmed nor was it examined during preparation of the taco. The manager offered to remake the dish but my dinner companion had given up by then. The manager offered a free dessert. It was a PB ice cream on a brownie - which I tasted and thought quite delicious but it did not remove the bad "taste" of the entrees. Given that I've had bad experiences both times I've come here, I'm giving up on this place which pains me because I live right in the neighborhood so I'd like to patronize it. But until they get their act together, it's off my list.

Really solid food. I got the brisket tacos, wife got the pork burrito, and we shared an order of guacamole. Everything was great. I got the salad on the side of the tacos and highly recommend it. Light and lemony and overall a really complimentary taste. We split the mains which was perfect. I did prefer the beef to the pork, but both were really good. Prices were good, portions were big. We had a bit too much food. Outdoor seating was nice, and they have chipotle cholula on every table. In a stroke of genius, they serve the tacos double wrapped, so when your first taco overflows after a few bites, it falls perfectly onto the second. You basically end up with 4 tacos. Only complaint was the strange double parking. Still not exactly sure what was going on in the parking lot.

My friends really like this place. We all went earlier and I got the fish rice bowl. it was nothing special. Just a bunch of ingredients thrown together. the wait took about 20 minutes. Not worth $12 in my opinion.

First, owner overcharges us for 5 margaritas instead of the 3 we ordered. Halfway through our meal, owner comes out to the patio and says to our party "we appreciate you not smoking marijuana". We tell him he's mistaken, and incredibly, he persists in accusing us and asking if we're sure. I had to drag him back outside to make him apologize for the rudeness. I only got a half apology, saying he was merely 'protecting his business'. Maybe learn how to do math and not treat your customers like crap, and then your business will be fine. Margaritas were ok.

Had lunch here and the food was very good. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Semi-fast food if you will. The fish was fresh and everything was tasty. I had the Blackened Tilapia, the day's special, with beans and rice, also ordered the chips and guacamole. The chips were nice and warm the guacamole was very good. This is a small place with limited seating but clean and well kept. Parking is off-street in a small shopping center. Parking is still a bit cramped so leave the large SUV at home or parking might be a bit challenging. Overall it is okay, not bad, but nothing special either. If you're in the mood for fish tacos and in the Cabin John area go for it!

Jose Andres-ish/Chipotle mashup. It's delicious and very reasonably priced for the quality of food. It's not much money than Chipotle, and the flavor profile is 1000 times more refined. Plus, we didn't have to deal with parking drama. If you are looking for some bland Taco Bell style Mexican food, head over to the California Tortilla. We tried the: Brisket rice bowl: fantastic smoky flavor in the beef and mushrooms, $5 ear of corn. Worth it. If you leave nearby you can afford to try it. Kids quesadilla: basic. The kids devoured it. Fried fish tacos: would be more authentic in a corn tortilla, but this is minor. nice slaw, sauce, breading. We did carry out at 5:00 on a Friday. There were no issues with service.

I really wanted to love this place as I live across the street. It's just too heavy and overdone for what is supposed to just be a taco joint. It is expensive and comes with nothing. No chips or anything. Everything is extra.

This place has become a favorite of mine. The fish tacos are delicious as is the brisket bowl and the ancho shrimp salad. There's outdoor seating, and the food comes out quickly. I tried the margaritas once, and they were good... unexpectedly strong but very good. Parking is free and is usually available.

We got there around 730 on a Friday night. It was PACKED! Seating is very limited so it's cut throat to get a table. I was nearly run down by a woman holding a glass of wine to get to a table. Maybe because it was so busy, it took around 40 mins to get our food. We got: Chips and salsa- the chips are fresh and the salsa is delicious Chicken tortilla soup: good with a slice of avacado Signature fish taco: outstanding. Chicken rice bowl- very good as well Overall a good place but avoid busy dinner times.

This is the new(ish) restaurant owned by the folks of Food Wine and Co. in Bethesda. I'm a fan of Food Wine and Co., so I expected good things from Fish Taco. I wasn't disappointed. I wish it were a little closer in to the Bethesda area, because I'd be a frequent patron if it were. That said, it's not too far away, and it's located in a quiet little shopping center near the intersection of Macarthur Blvd. and Seven Locks Rd. in Cabin John. We went in for a late lunch and we were the only ones in there eating. Despite being there past the normal lunch hour, our food was hot and fresh, and the service was fast and friendly. I had the chicken tortilla soup and the citrus pork carnitas tacos with salad (you have a choice of salad or rice and beans). The soup was warming and nicely seasoned, and the carnitas were indeed citrusy and tender. I also really liked their simple lemon vinaigrette on the salad. Everything was very good, and the prices are reasonable. I would go back again!

I just moved back to the DC area after living in San Francisco for the past 8 years. Lot's of great taqueria's in San Fran so I was thrilled when Fish Taco Taqueria opened near me in Glen Echo. I have dined at FTT now 3 times and have had mixed experiences each time. Really love the decor it is comfortable with nice booths and outdoor seating. They had really good aqua fresca on the menu the first two times I went and then decided not to offer aqua fresca any longer. I hope they decide to bring it back! The fish tacos I had where good but over seasoned, the beef brisket tacos I had the first time where really delicious but the second time they where way to fatty. The corn on the cob was also over seasoned and over sauced. Great guacamole and chips! My son loves the quesadilla and they added a kids menu since they opened which we appreciated. Seems like they are still working out the kinks and from what I can tell there is a lot of potential. I am rooting for Fish Taco Taqueria to make it!

Update to the very rare 5 star review. Terrific food. Those of you who come here and get chicken, steak, etc and complain about it...this place specializes in seafood. As that TV commercial says "you wouldn't order a burger in a sushi restaurant". I had, today for the first time, their corn on the cob. I think $5 is a bit insane, considering you could get a dozen ears of corn for $5 but one bite into it and WOW....worth that insane $5. Great food.

Came here yesterday with a few friends. I ordered the Blackened fish tacos and my friend ordered the Grilled fish tacos, so we each had one of each. I can't say which one was better because I thought both tacos were delicious! My only complaint is that it's a bit pricey for the amount of food that you get. I had two tacos with the salad and I was still hungry. Maybe if I had gotten the rice and beans, it would have been more filling. I would definitely still recommend this place though - but only as a snack unless you're willing to spend more money to order more food. I will definitely be coming back the next time I'm craving fish tacos!

I'm from Texas (and have a constant longing for tacos), and Fish Taco definitely satisfies - food, ambiance, service, and the fact that they brought something unique to Bethesda. We ordered the signature fish tacos, the fried avocado tacos, and the elotes. Good portion sizes, just the right amount of heat, tangy sauces, and fresh, quality ingredients. This is super nit-picky, but the elotes corn is delicious, but so messy to eat. It's fire-grilled corn on the cob that is covered with queso, chile powder, and a deliciously tangy sauce. I would much prefer that the corn is carved off the cob in the kitchen and then dressed with the toppings and served in a bowl. Like I said, super picky, but would make a big difference. Also, while other reviewers seem to be complaining about the prices, we thought the prices were fair. Each taco entree comes with two (delicious, high quality) tacos, Spanish rice, and black beans. UPDATE on 1/13/2014: I just picked up lunch from Fish Taco after not having been here in a few months. The management/owners are clearly paying attention to user reviews on here and responding appropriately to improve on what their consumers want. Kids meals were priced lower, tacos seem more robust/bigger, margaritas were added to the menu.. just to name a few of the changes I noticed since my last visit. I ordered the blackened fish tacos ($8.50) which was on daily special, and they were by far my favorite tacos I've ordered from here. The veggies were perfectly charred, the cream sauce was incredible, and the fish was delicious and flaky.. not too 'fishy'. I got the fish tacos, side of delicious rice and beans, and a San Pellegrino orange soda for a total of $10.60. It's a great deal, and anybody who says otherwise must be expecting fast food quality. (Although - isn't a value meal from Taco Bell only $2 less than this?). Kudos to management.

Tasty! We've tried various fish and beef tacos; they were great. Not much from which to choose in this immediate area--this is the best of limited options imo. Do wish there was the possibility of subbing something, anything, for the standard bland beans and rice side.

I stopped at Fish Taco on my way home from work, and am very happy with my experience. I ordered food to go, and it took only a few minutes to make my fresh and delicious entrees. We tried the brisket taco and the signature fish taco--I have to say the brisket was my favorite. It was like an explosion of flavors, the meat was tender, and there was a nice spice level (I LOVE hot foods, and this was just right). The signature fish tacos were delicious, but not enough fish to balance the cabbage slaw. The decor of the restaurant is understated and clean, but interesting and lovingly quirky all at the same time. My only complaint is that the prices on the fish taco platters is high--average $13 for two tacos, rice, and beans--but the quality of the food just about makes up for it. Definitely check this place out if you are in the Glen Echo, Potomac, Bethesda, or Rockville area.

Good food, fast. Super bummer that none of the kids options had FISH. Um, hello? At FISH TACO?? They weren't even able to sub out the kids choices to accommodate an order with fish (I would have gladly paid a bit more). The cashier seemed confused and unable to accommodate those substitutions. Wound up having to order for my kids off the adult menu and wasting food. Over all though, it was a good quick easy meal.

I give this place 3.5 stars. The food is fresh, and while I was a little underwhelmed at the portion size, I thought it was definitely worth a try. I expect that as the place gets more comfortable with itself since it just opened, that things may change a little bit. We had the blackened fish (mahi mahi) which had just too many sauces -- the pineapple, and then the pickled cabbage gave my mouth way too many flavors. However, their house fish (ocean perch) tacos was quite good, but here is where I was a little underwhelmed with the fish size. The tacos are $12-$13! A little more fish please. The tamarind water was very good, definitely a different taste, a bit tropical. Looks like much darker, and not-so-translucent iced-tea.

Fabulous reviews in The Washingtonian brought us here in conjunction with a hike along the C&O Canal towpath. I was prepared for "wonderful" but left with an "OK" feeling about the place because everything we ordered was overly sweet. Sweet blackened fish tacos? Sweet salad? No tomatoes in either the tacos or the salad? Not for me! But the menu remains tantalizing and I'm up for returning someday to see whether I just ordered the wrong things.... (Note - I overheard conversation at the next table in which it was said that one of their party had insisted they eat there three times that week! So there's something about this place that creates fans.)

BRING BACK THE SWORDFISH!!!!!!!!! I have been to this restaurant at least once a week since it opened. It is just to convenient for me and the food is delicious. The biggest problem with this place is that they keep changing the best things about the menu. When it first opened I would either get, the Fried Avocado Tacos that had nepales on them or the Blackened Fish Tacos that had grilled pineapple, both delicious. But then they had to go and take the Avocado/ Nepales Tacos off the menu and replace the grilled pineapple on the Blackened Fish with some gelatinous mess. Disappointed, I tried the Grilled Fish Tacos made with Swordfish. Loved them and kept coming back for more. But now they have changed the fish on the grilled fish tacos. I am so annoyed !!!!!!! So I am deducting a star. BRING BACK THE SWORDFISH!!!!!!! The also stopped selling tres leches, boo. Bravo on adding a good salad to the menu. Also the new white rice is much better than the dirty rice they used to make but still isn't cooked properly. Tip ask for a good helping of beans instead of rice.

Enjoyed the brisket taco very much. A very nice smoky flavor and the brisket melts in your mouth. Also had a signature fish taco. Excellent flavor . I'm sure this restaurant will do great at this location. It's truly fresh food and very tasty.

We found out that Fish Taco changed the menu since their opening. They added some kid friendly options and changed a few other things. Anyway, we gave it a try yesterday. Everyone was very happy. My daughter had a steak quesadilla and my boy had the kid's steak platter with rice and beans. I had the brisket burrito, asked for no onions, and got it. Very happy with the food and happy that they became a neighborhood place to eat for our family.

A friend of mine and I went because we were craving tacos. He got the brisket and I got the grilled fish tacos. They were sooo good. The rice topped with beans was on the bland side as well as the guacamole. But the overall experience was good. We will be back.

Great for a light, quick lunch. Not dinner....you will be hungry! I had the shrimp tacos which was dripping with sauce but it was flavorful so I guess that's ok. The fish tacos come with either Cod (the signature taco and the only one that comes with the signature sauce), blackened grilled mahi-mahi, or tilapia. The tacos come with black beans and white rice in an attempt to hold you over for more than 2 hours. If you come for dinner you will need more than just one plate. The plates come with two tacos and the most expensive plate is the shrimp tacos ($12) and the cheapest is the chicken tacos ($7). Note: Their signature fish taco is $10. They also have quesadilla and great margaritas (lime flavor only) for $6. Clean restrooms and eating area and friendly customer service. The parking lot is a little crazy and there is limited outdoor seating on a nice day. The outdoor seating is not a "private area" it is the patio to the shopping center. Stop by if you are nearby.

These are same people that own Food and Wine Co in Bethesda and it has in common with that restaurant, mediocre and over-priced. We came in about 6 on Friday night, place was about half-full. There are two registers but one cashier was MIA for a while and the manager didn't fill in. Neither spoke English very well and when I tried to get double beans instead of beans and rice, I got a half-full bowl of beans, probably about 4 ounces with my two fish tacos. Oh, and the beans were room temperature so we had to send them back. The tacos were no better than you could get off a truck somewhere for 3 bucks a piece except that they were $11 for a pair and the cold beans. So, two beers, chips and salsa, two orders of tacos, $41. It seems that restaurant people think that in a good zip code you can charge what you want and people will pay it. Notice all the glowing reviews are from friends of the owners that probably didn't pay for dinner. Leave it alone and find a food truck.

Really good Mexican style food. Tacos are great, haven't tried other food, but I am going to. Beer and Margaritas available in this stylish casual restaurant. I have seen a couple of comments about price and portions. The tacos are about 10-11 dollars and you get two. The ingredients are fresh, the fish is fresh grilled or fried. The slaw is crunchy. Sauces are flavorful and bright. If you are looking for good food, this is your place. If you are looking for cheap food, Golden Arches for you.

Stopped in today to grab a carry out lunch and I was not disappointed. I had the blackened fish tacos and they were excellent. My son had the a chicken quesadilla and he reported that his was also quite good. The accompanying beans and rice were very tasty. We also tried the corn on the cob appetizer and really enjoyed this. It's so nice to have a great casual restaurant that is take-out friendly on this part of MacArthur Blvd. Great addition to the neighborhood and I'm looking forward to returning.

Enjoyed a delicious salad with blackened fish, avocado, and mango and the dressing was also good - very fresh and delicious! Everyone's food looked good although the tacos did not seem like a very large portion of filling. The food is nicely presented for the price.

We're ridiculously excited to have a new place to eat in the neighborhood- the only downside of living in Glen Echo is the lack of dining options. This one has parking, a casual-cool vibe, and pretty decent tacos. My husband raved about the fish taco, and I loved the chicken quesadilla. (Chicken tacos, on the other hand, were nothing to write home about.) They definitely need more beers on draft, and since it's new they're still working out all the kinks. But we have high hopes!

I ate there last Saturday with my husband and two young kids. My grilled fish and mango salad was tangy and delicious with just the right amount of dressing. I loved how the children's meals came with a side of fresh fruit. My husband liked his fish Taco so much that he barely agreed to give me a bite! Great outdoor seating and so convenient for lunch after Glen Echo Park. Well definitely be back!

Very fresh Fish, moist, well spice Tacos with black beans. Beer a bit pricey for a plastic cup. Service attentive...order at counter and they deliver to table and frequent check in on needs.

First time here. Cool decor. Quick service. Chips warm and fresh. Got the signature fish tacos. Having grown up in socal, I have a pretty good idea of how good Mexican food is. And these are some of the best fish tacos I have had in the dc area. Rice and beans were pretty good too. Just wish they would let you order a la carte. They almost got a 5. But... The staff could be a whole lot more pleasant.

I've dined at Fish Taco twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner. A neat little hole in the wall in a Cabin John strip mall. Their food is good, full of flavor, but seriously lacking in portion size. Their prices are a bit steep, and so for $12, I'd expect more than 2 shrimp on each of the 2 tacos in an order. They aren't very generous with the rice and beans either. Their beverage prices are steep too so consider a free glass of water to help pinch your pennies. Pros: hot, fresh, flavorful food Cons: high prices, small portions, no free chips & salsa

I wish I can give this rating zero stars, but 1 is the lowest I can give. Inconsistent food. When it is OK, it is just OK. When bad it is almost inedible. Service is ok. Of the 2 times we have eaten in, instead of carry out, an Asian teenager brought the food out. He was eager and very nice, but not a very good server. This is even a month in between visits. The manager didn't really seem to care about anything except to get the food out of the kitchen. We also had a very close friend that had a terrible experience here. She was chastised by the manager and owner for sitting at the wrong outdoor table, when there were other patrons already sitting in the "wrong outdoor tables". We won't be going back. The extra 5 minute drive to Chipotle is well worth it, especially since it is cheaper and so much better.

This place met all of our high hopes. The service was quick (we came at 9pm so not during rush, but the place was still pretty lively). The fish tacos were delicious and came with a nice sized side of beans and rice and were served on these colorful cool-looking ceramic plates. (Not sure about anyone else, but I don't consider $12 for a full dinner over-priced!) I ordered the elote as well as an appetizer and it was yummy. Never had anything like it. We sat outside and I loved the quiet, candle-lit atmosphere with couples and families enjoying their dinners together at the rustic outdoor tables. I can't wait to try more things on the menu- love the unique offerings and relaxing atmosphere- this place perfectly suits the Cabin John area. We had several young teenaged staff people (bus people) stop by and ask us how our meal was which was really nice too.

I've been at Fish Taco twice since it's opened. There's an open kitchen and the decor is really cool, from the napkin holders to the lighting fixtures to the architectural-salvage wood tables. They've got a more than ample, friendly and well-trained staff. Everything my companions and I have eaten there has been both tasty and creative. Blackened fish tacos, octopus tacos, brisket tacos, fried avocado salad. Who comes up with these? And the beverages were just as unique, from the pomegranate margaritas to the peach sangria. I brought three vegetarians, who had plenty to choose from and they were all pleased with their choices. Despite the fact that they'd been open less than a week, they were already doing a good business. More traffic than one would expect in the first week in the middle of August. Based on the professionalism of the staff, they should do fine when their volume explodes. I can't wait to try everything on the menu.

Went here last night for dinner. We were impressed by the atmosphere - nice, clean and comfortable for fast casual food. The food was just ok. I had the blackened tilapia taco and something was missing. On my part, I should have asked for corn tortillas - I like those so much better. My boyfriend had the briskit burrito - which was good, but would have been better if there were more in it besides a lot of rice, some beans and the meat. It's just ok - I prefer going to Surfside at the same price and much closer to DC.

Tried fish taco last week after hearing much about it. The original fish tacos were cooked perfectly . my husband had the brisket tacos and said the meat was tender and flavorful. Also ordered a pork burrito, but ended up taking it home for lunch the next day. The pork burrito was also delicious. I appreciated their careful pairing of different salsa for each protein. Chips and salsa were fresh and very tasty. I will return

I'm from southern California and I was very excited to see this place pop up right in my new neighborhood. Unfortunately everything was just average. It is increasingly difficult to find good Mexican food out here and this place is no different from most the Mexican restaurants in the DMV. I did enjoy the blackened fish tacos (I asked for corn tortillas instead of the flour they are usually served in) and the fried avocado tacos were different and quite good. The beans and rice were not good. The beans were kind of bland and the rice was oddly flavored (saffron???) and not Mexican tasting at all. I also got a side of salsa and was very disappointed in the flavor of the salsa alone. I'm not sure if there is just too much cilantro or not enough onion and jalapenos but it tasted pretty bad. I overheard someone say that the tres leche cake was amazing but I did not try it myself. In the end, I will go back for the tacos but I hope that they change the menu to offer the tacos a la carte or change up the recipe on the beans and rice. I'm excited to try the tres leche cake sometime and I'm a huge margarita fan so I'll have to stop by to try those sometime too.

Great addition to the neighborhood. I cannot believe the transformation they made to the former space. The service was pleasant and helpful, prices are very reasonable and the food was very good. Gave five stars for passing the guacamole test with flying colors and bringing something new and fresh.

Very good food in a neighborhood that badly needs more dining options and that has the disposable income to support such establishments. Convivial, not too expensive, and easy parking. Very nice staff. Outdoor dining. Hard to beat if you're a local.

A serendipitous find! Looking for a place to grab a quick bite, noticed the name & went in. The grilled fish taco was outstanding. Slaw and chile lime mayo sauce, just right. Served with rice. & beans. Also ordered a charred corn & smoked mushroom quesadilla & liked the interesting flavor combinations. So many other options to try. Looking forward to returning. The creative and interesting decor made it also a feast for the eyes. Glad we found it!
